I should not be allowed into libraries unsupervised. I walked the mile and a half to the Bloomfield library in this 93 degree heat and ended up picking up:

The Sandman: Dream Country by Neil Gaiman
The Sandman: Endless Nights by Neil Gaiman
When the Going Gets Weird: A Very Unauthorized Biography of Hunter S.
I have no idea what my last update was, but I've felt inspired to update because someone commented on one of my entries from sometime around 2005 (btw if it was you please let me know because I can't for the life of me figure it out and it's driving me batty).

What's new? Well, it's been one year (or it will be in 9 days) since graduation and I've got one of those fancy "job" things. I totally work for the man too (Mike Bloomberg) so any hope of me keeping my soul is pretty much kaput.

Work's good though - lots of stuff to do. I get about 2% of the information I need and use context clues, my freakish gift for guessing correctly, and good old fashioned B.S.ing skills to make it through my day. It's tiring, but they pay me.

Of course the down side to all this responsibility is the monotony. It gets kind of boring having my M-F, 6am to 7pm taken up by the exciting world of contracts doc management.

And the wanderlust. Oh boy the wanderlust. I need to get out. If only traveling places wasn't so expensive (especially now we're getting BONED by the Euro). I might just take time off and bus out to see the world's largest ball of twine and biggest collection of Happy Meal toys and all those quirky glorified gift shops. Anyone up for a road trip?

But still, I really can't complain. Great apartment, supercool roommate, job that I'm totally underqualified for, and a birthday (23 - every time I think about it my brain shuts down a little) just around the corner.

Now I just gotta decide what's next. I'd like to own a bakery, own a bar, get my masters/phd in Economics (ideally at NYU), buy a car (hell, buy a bed frame), become a professor, become a writer, become a chef, become an international jewel thief, adopt a bunch of kids, and learn how to do that thing where you put a towel on your head after you get out the shower. But hell, there's always next year. :)

~J

So I'm at the library, as established, and this delivery guy shows up with some food, which is not technically allowed, but after 12, the library is MY HOUSE, so it's acceptable. The guy does not know who ordered this food, and does not have the guy's number. He looks for about 12 seconds before giving up and just standing at the desk, waiting for my help. As it is MY HOUSE, i just holler "DID ANYONE ORDER CHINESE FOOD?!" at the top of my lungs.

"JAPANESE!!!!" the delivery guy shouts.

*stunned silence*

fuck. I know I never update but I'm at the library and don't feel much like doing anything so update I shall!

Graduation is less than 2 months away (*insert Jaws theme here*) - eesh! I'm desperately searching for a job - something to pay the eventual rent. Right now I'm interning at the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York and still working at the biblio, and i'm trying to get a few hours in at admissions and, oh yeah - classes. Senioritis, my dear sweet friend, we meet again. In all fairness it hit worse in high school, but still I DON'T WANNA DO SCHOOLWORK!! WAHHh!! *temper tantrum*

What should I be when I grow up? So far I've been told I should be an elementary school teacher (by a few people over the years, most recently, Timothy J. Howes) and working in P.R. (by bradlow the magnificent) Thoughts?

While I want to find a stable career, blah, boring, blahdy blah, I can't help but be infatuated with the idea of holding down several completely unrelated crappy, crappy jobs. I love crappy jobs - I can't help it. If I work, let's say, 4 crappy jobs at a time, would it still count as one good job? It's my whole need to be able to tell my hypothetical kids stories that begin with.."When I was a plumber in Belgium..." or something like that.

..Discuss....

~J

So i'm working in the library right now (hence the post, i guess) and instead of the usual 3 student employees, and 1-3 supervisors working right now it's just me. Here there's the counter out front in the library and a back room with desks/offices for the supervisors.

...so I just went to gulp some delicious gatorade in the back area, and saw some butterfingers on a table with a note that says "Happy Halloween, help yourself!"
So today was pretty exciting, actually this whole week was a hoot!

Rewinds...

Thursday and Friday were "reading days" aka "get stupid drunk and make bad decisions" days for most of the campus. I vowed to study.

But Laibond was in town (from Hong friggin Kong) and Meekin, Brez, and Dan Patisteas were all in town (they graduated 2 years ago so they were certainly sights for sore eyes). So i felt it was my civic duty to play with them all weekend. And I did - it was really fun. Laibond and I had a Ninja Turtles II/Surf Ninjas night that topped off with TOAST at the diner with Chris Palmer, Whitney (who is hilarious, i had no idea) and coach and his wifey. Fun was had by all.

There was no rugby game this weekend, but we decided to drink like there was going to be one anyways, friday's theme for the rookies (which is a group i'm KINDA in) was to dress like the veterans, so i went as Addy. It was a lot of fun because i got to dye my hair red (looked decent, too) and i love to dye my hair red, as you may know, oh reader of my lj.

Today i dropped a truely horrendous class and now do not have to do the truely horrendous paper i would have had to do otherwise. Woot.

congrats if you read this far.

Presige - good movie, although nobody drowns in a minute and a half, frustrating movie but REALLY REALLY good.

I also saw Gossford Park, and let me tell ya, i have no idea whether I liked it or not, it was definitely interesting, so if you happen across it, give it a watch if you have the time and don't have to pay for it.

Today's my roomie's (annie's) birthday sooo everyone buy her pretty things!

~J

PS: 6 minutes til freedom, yay library shifts!!

<lj:music>Almost There - Got The Best Of Me</lj:music>

I have a HUGE History of Economic Thought Mid-Term tomorrow (that i had totally forgotten about until my roomate mentioned it to me today - thanks Addy) that i have gotten little to no studying done for because i've spat (or should i say "shat") out two pretty mediocre papers for Economics of the Third world on some depressing ass subjects.

All in all, though, I can't really complain.

This weekend was AMAZING - Friday I had a BLAST at practice, cut out early, took the train (which for some reason i LOVE) to William Patterson to go chill with Bisco. She threw an amazing halloween party and I got to try out my Supergirl (yes, Dia, my costume is revealed!) costume. O man so much fun - one of the best suprises was that i already knew most of the people at the party, so the anticipated stranger akwardness was nonexistant.

Saturday, Bisco and I watched Jackass 2 - SOOOO funny!! Oy, just so much love for those crazy fellas. Then we went back to Drew (I kidnapped Bisco) and watched Jackass 1, we have such a wide range of interests.

Sunday: RUGBY DAY!! I scored my second try ever (oh, woot, this makes me fiercely happy!) and the team played SUCH a good game (even though we did lose, but we played so well so i could give a fuck about the score). The rest of the day was just chill, as is required after several blows to the head.

O man, goooood weekend. Of course it's monday (well, technically tuesday) now, and I don't want to do my work...hence the post.

Whatever man, by this time tomorrow, the exam will be over, the papers will be out of my hands, and I'll only have 1 day of class between me and a 4 day weekend (Reading Days BITCHESSS!!)

Love and Shoulder Bites,
~J

Okay so I usually don't have a problem with the froshies here at Drew - usually.

Now i'm not applying this to everyone (as i haven't met all the freshmen, obviously) but let's just say I find myself unimpressed.

First off: NOTHING on this campus is "the quad" - I promise you. I know the College years of Saved By the Bell promised you there would be a designated "quad" at college, but there isn't one here. Sorry. Deal with it. If i hear one more froshie designate the University Centre (It already has a nickname - the UC) "the quad", lets just say I won't be responsible for my actions.

Second of all: stop yakking in class - I've noticed this in my anth class more than anything. These kids (especially the chicks) will be talking about their great aunt's sigmatism (an actual example) while i'm trying to listen. SHUT UP. you suck

okay this is going to turn into a SUPER-RANT so i'll leave it at this much.

...thanks for letting me vent.

~J

PS: Dia - you smell like farts.

Sooo Wednesday was the Counting Crows/Goo Goo Dolls concert at PNC. I went with Bisco and her two roomates, Kelly and Lauren. They are effing hilarious. Kelly and Lauren are COMPLETE opposites and play off each other spectacularly. At one point in the concert, Kelly grabs Lauren and drags her under the CAUTION tape blocking the lawn seats from the real seats. They ran to safety under the watchful eyes of an apathetic security guy.

Bisco and I are left next to this tape with both the desire to hang with Kelly and Lauren and the obstacle of two enthusiastic security guys that had just showed up to relieve the apathetic one. SAAADDD FACE.

So goo goo dolls finishes up, and people start walking around. Two extra large human beings come to talk to their friends in the lawn section, blocking us beautifully as bisco and i waited with baited breath for the security guys to get distracted. They looked away and we BOLTED.

SOOO now we're in the seat section of Garden State Arts Centre, where they don't let you stand in the aisles during a performance. The lights dim, the band starts, people start going to their seats. FUCK. We don't have seats. Soo bisco and i BOLT up a row and randomly grab some empty seats. The Counting Crows start up....more and more people are filing into their seats. ....more and moree.......and moree..... and the only two (well actually 3, since we had an empty next to us) seats that we could see that did not get refilled were the random ones we chose. SOO yea free seats at a concert. We win at life!!

The. End.

~J

ONE WEEK LEFT!!! YAYYAYYYY!!

Okay so yesterday Steph and I were broke, and sad, but we had the day off!!

The great wandering begins....

So i figure, hey, my debit card has $$, let's find a bank!! Whooo crazy, eh?

..appparently so.

So we figure we have all day and start a-wandering, and end up in what can only be described as the "it fell off a truck" furniture district of Harbin. ...it was shady.

Eventually we go ...o SCREW IT, and hop a cab to Jialefu, the local grocery GIANT of a store. As we're being cabbed away, we see a bank of china, right by our hotel, oh, oh crap we're dumb. However, since we've paid for the damn cab, we go all the way to jialefu, try one ATM (which didn't accept my card) and then wander down a street to another bank that has a VISA sign on the ATM, but still didn't like my card.

Crap.

Well...we think, we can just head on home and hit up the bank of china. this is like 2 hrs after our search began. AND SHAZAAM! the Atm spits out money and we jump up and down like idiots.

Cheap DVDs...here i come.

We went shopping and met some chinese girl studying english in some crowded as hell mcdonalds. It was really cute, steph was talking to her in chinese and she was responding in english, and i occasionally threw in a word or two in either language, steph and her exchanged email addresses and now they're pen pals.

Next we went to USABucks, which is, you guessed it, a USA themed coffee place/bar.

it was unintentionally hilarious!! They had like small blow up dolls on the wall and these lewd cartoons and such, because that's how americans are depicted.

...crappy coffee though.

annd that's all i got for uze!!

~J

every time i go to update this thing, every little anecdote i had planned to write runs out of my head. hrmmm.... think....think.. (taps forehead, Winnie the pooh style...hehe...poo)

Yesterday i had class, watched a whole bunch of scrubs (warren bought seasons 1-5, which by the way I found) I walked into his room, took the box of dvd's and walked out. the poor boy didn't even notice. Don't worry, we returned it when we were done.

Did we do anything yesterday? Ummm ate at the restaurant downstairs, then we all watched Waiting (and by we all, i mean the cool kids) which is hilarious, i'm sure i've mentioned this before.

This trip truly is Eat, sleep, study, poo.

Anywhoo i'm in a wangba and then i'm going to a store to buy souviners for all you jerkfaces. have a lovely day.

~J

Sorry no update in a while, this trip is...well its best summed up by a little song written by no other than Drew University's own Laibond Cheng and Joe Shin.

"Eat, sleep, study, pooooo. EAATT SLEEEEPP STUDYYYY POOOOO"

catchy, eh?

This past weekend we were all dragged kicking and screaming (okay i was kicking, screaming, biting, and making surly comments)to some "spa" five hours north of Harbin.

The bus broke down about halfway there.

Fantastic. So we finally get a new bus and drive north, where ironically it just got hotter.

The hotel was soo crappy. The beds were seriously the hardest things ever. Think of those display beds they have at JCPenny's and those sort of places. Ever jump on those (eh, bobman?). They look okay, but there's wood underneath the comfy blanket. That was EXACTLY what that hotel had ("it's good for your back" says Bai Di, but i'm not buying it, as my back HATES me now)

Everyone went out to do some touristy crap, but i was too tired and unhappy with the whole ordeal (my theory is bai di dragged us all here because she wanted to take her mom to a spa on Drew's money, but that's just my theory) to be social, so i stole laibond's computer and watched some movies i had bought.

Don't ever....ever watch ecks vs. sever, promise me, just...don't

I saw Waiting (Chinese title: "Eat This") which was wayyy funnier than i had anticipated (and i thought i was in for quite a guffaw, so that's saying something)

The next day we all went hiking up this dormant volcano (it was sooo awesome, albeit 8 million degrees out, but fun) and then went into this cave to see some "natural ice formations" that turned out to be "ice sculptures just like the ones you've already seen but crappier" underground.

Then we hit up a Mongolian Yurt (think tent) where we had lunch. They had all kinds of lamb and congealed lamb's blood, and vegetables with dip.

Now here's where i need to interject a certain point: every meal ever eaten here has had some dish containing green bell peppers. Harmless, delightful, dare i say, delicious? Green Bell Peppers.

So we're in this yert, and a dish of vegetables with dip rolls my way. Vegetables with dip?? WONDERFUL!I grab me some peppers and some cucumbers, slam a pepper in the dip and chow on down. oh. oh no. WORLD"S SPICIEST DIP EVER!! To lessen the searing pain in my FACE, i eat another pepper to cool everything down. Unfortunately, everything just gets worse. My eyes were tearing, my nose was snotting, it was all kinds of not pretty. Laibond helps himself to some dip on a cucumber and is totally baffled "the dip's not spicy" he tells me.

Crap, it was the peppers.

Soo i spent the rest of the half hour writhing in pain damning my own stupidity to hell.

LOVE!
~J
